Two-time defending champion Stallions sweep aside first-year Royals to open 2020 CPJHL playoffs

The two-time defending champion Severn Stallions are moving on to the second round of the CPJHL playoffs after sweeping the Langton Royals in two straight games this week.

Kicking off the postseason Wednesday at Langton Arena, Kevin Shirmaly scored twice in a 5-2 win for the Stallions.

Liam Coleman added a goal and two assists and Christopher Champagne and Brett Machin added goals to back David Barrett's 29-save outing between the pipes.

Jared Weatherbee tacked on three assists and Austin Gilmore added a pair of helpers.

For the Royals, Ismael Prudent had a goal and an assist, Carson Favel also scored, and Trevor Slaven stopped 31 shots in goal.

Then Thursday from the Coldwater Community Centre, Barrett turned aside all 45 shots he faced and Weatherbee put up two goals and an assist as Severn blanked Langton 4-0.

Champagne chipped in a goal and an assist, Sammy Spencer three assists, Coleman two assists, and Scott Knowles also scored.

In the Royals net, Slaven finished with 45 saves.
