A HUGE congratulations is in order for a huge contributor to the 2017-18 Presidents Cup champion Essa Stallions, as they have graduated defenseman Brett Simpson to play professional hockey over in Sweden.

Simpson has accepted a contract from Lions HC Stromstad in Division 3  in Stromstad, Sweden.

The 21-year-old from Barrie, Ont., tallied 24 points in 39 games last season with the Stallions.

"Brett has been a steady, reliable D-man for us over the years and to be able to see him grow into a very talented and rugged d-man, and an even better young man is truly why I love this game we are a part of," said Stallions head coach and director of hockey operations Sylvain Cloutier. "I know he will make all of us proud, and represent our team and our league well overseas."

"I've only had the pleasure of coaching Brett for one season. However, having him present reliability both on and off the ice, as well as being a core leader for this group, I'm not sure anyone else deserves this opportunity more than him," added Essa GM and assistant coach David Lang. "They are getting a two-way d-man, who has the ability to both kill penalties and play on the power play. It is going to be an adjustment period for him playing the European game, but once he adjusts, I expect him to excel."

Special thanks to 93 Hockey Services with help arranging the deal.

From all of us here in the herd, and at the barn - Best of Luck Simps! We're pulling for you!
