Stallions add steady defenceman Baumgardner to 2018-19 blue line

Fresh off a CPJHL championship, the Essa Stallions have already started gearing up for the 2018-19 season.

The Stallions are proud to announce the signing of defenceman Ben Baumgardner.

Baumgardner is currently a member of the Knoxville Jr. Ice Bears AA U18 team in Knoxville, Tenn., and is known as a stay-at-home D-man with good hands and a heavy shot.

"We're very excited for the addition of Ben to our team," said Essa coach Sylvain Cloutier. "We expect him to fit nicely in our D-core, and be that steady, reliable presence on the back end."

"I am excited to be part of such a successful organization," added Baumgardner. "I am looking forward to learning from Coach Cloutier, Coach Lang and the rest of the staff in Essa. I also can't wait to experience Canada."

People think its a small world we live in - try this one on for size:

Baumgardner lived in Houston between 2001 and 2004. His first exposure to the sport and first game was when his dad took him to see the Houston Aeros play the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL Calder Cup Finals.

For those who don't know, Cloutier was the captain of that Aeros team that went on to defeat the Bulldogs in seven games.

Baumgardner chose hockey over baseball and Taekwondo, and could be found watching reruns and highlights of famous Detroit Red Wings games as a young boy. His favorite player is Niklas Lidstrom.
