Smiths Falls tabs former player Lemay as new GM

The Smiths Falls Settlers are pleased to announce the signing of former Smiths Falls Settlers player Geoff Lemay as the team's new GM.

Geoff made the decision to put pen to paper this past week and the Settlers organization are very excited about his commitment to the cause. Geoff played for the Settlers back in 1981/82 and then went on to play college hockey for two years. He has very fond memories of being a Settler and the friendships that he made along the way. He then went on to referee for ten years and was involved in minor hockey in Smiths Falls acting as convener, assistant coach and head coach for another seventeen years.

Head Coach and Director of Player Recruitment Frank Morris stated, “After meeting Geoff I was delighted to hear that he was accepting the position of GM. A GM is at the heart of any organization and plays such an integral part in the building process of any junior hockey team. Most importantly Geoff brings history to the organization and a wealth of experience of working within the community of Smiths Falls in Minor Hockey. He will also bring an added professionalism to our organization”

Settlers Director of Player Development and former Smiths Falls Bears Captain Barry DeGray was delighted to hear Geoff was coming on board.

“I have known Geoff for a number of years and I am well aware of what Geoff is bringing to our organization," said DeGray. "I am absolutely delighted that he has signed with our organization and I am really looking forward to working with him. We have a great deal of exciting plans in the pipeline and Geoff will play a big part in making all of this happen."

The Settlers have had a very busy off-season with the recruitment process and sending players to USHL main camp, Quebec Major junior camp and it is rumored that one or two settlers may be on their way to pro camp. The Settlers will soon be announcing tryout dates for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
