Jaskiewicz selected new Hawks head coach

by Matt Mackinder

Matthew Jaskiewicz has been named the second head coach in Grey Highlands Hawks franchise history.

Prior to joining the Hawks, Jaskiewicz, 23, served as the Assistant Coach and Assistant GM for the Dallas Snipers (2014–17) and helped the Snipers advance to the playoffs each of the past 3 seasons. Coach Jaskiewicz has helped develop and send over 35 players to higher levels of Junior, College and Professional Hockey in his first 3 years of coaching.

Before leaving Dallas, Jaskiewicz was the second longest tenured member (2012-2017) of the Snipers organization behind Owner, Steve Becton.

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jaskiewicz grew up working with the Corpus Christi Icerays during their time as a professional organization in the Central Hockey League. Bryan Elliott, the CPJHL Commissioner worked for the Icerays for one season with Jaskiewicz.

“I know Mr. Elliott from our days in Corpus. One thing that stood out to me about Bryan while he was in Corpus was his attention to detail. I really enjoyed working around him. He did a great job in year one of helping grow the CPJHL. I am looking forward to getting to work with him again,” stated Jaskiewicz.

“I would first off like to thank Cory and Carrie for the opportunity to lead this program. I can’t wait to be a part of the Markdale family, and have this program actively involved with the Markdale community. I know Assistant Coach Emil Melin from our time together in Dallas (2013–14) when we were teammates. I am really looking forward to getting to work with him. I have heard nothing but great things from him about this community. I am excited to get to work with Goalie Coach Rob Campbell and Power Skating Coach Denise Reid. They will be two big pieces of our success down the road and I am thankful for the opportunity to work with this staff. I want to thank the Becton family, Aaron Davis and Rob Skelly for their support the past 5 seasons in Dallas. I am looking forward to a great season in Grey Highlands,” stated Coach Jaskiewicz.
