Hawks sign junior hockey-experienced forward Leonardi for upcoming CPJHL campaign

The Grey Highlands Hawks have announced the signing of forward Zach Leonardi for the 2018-19 CPJHL season.

Leonardi is a Thunder Bay, Ont., native and played for the Schreiber Filane’s Falcons in the Lakehead Junior Hockey League during the 2017-18 season.

Leonardi is a versatile forward, who can play both center and wing.

He is described as a two-way, playmaking forward with good hockey sense. Leonardi is a team-first guy, who will greatly improve the team's penalty killing. He is willing to block the tough shots in front of the net and will win more puck battles than not.

“I pride myself on my hard work ethic on and off the ice," said Leonardi. "I will do whatever is needed for our team to succeed."

Over the course of his career, Leonardi has had a number of accomplishments, including three city championships (Thunder Bay) and over 10 tournament wins across Northwestern Ontario and Minnesota. He was also named as thetop rookie for the Schreiber Falcons.

Leonardi also spent two years living in Gatineau, Quebec, where his team finished as the regional runner-up for his D2 high school team.

“I hope to learn as much as I can from Coach Tichbourne and use this opportunity to create other opportunities either in college or elsewhere," Leonardi said. "But most of all, I hope to just enjoy myself and contribute as much as I can to the team and community."
