Hawks sign Connecticut high school standout blueliner McCabe for 2018-19 CPJHL campaign
The Grey Highlands Hawks have announced the signing of defenseman Eric McCabe for the 2018-19 season.
McCabe goes 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds and hails from Trumbull, Conn. He played the past four seasons for Trumbull High School, which was part of the tough Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC).
His senior year, he was voted captain of his team and finished the year with 15 points and 40 penalty minutes in 20 games. McCabe was also honored with being chosen All-State First Team and to the All-FCIAC Team.
McCabe is well-versed as a player who can provide some offense on the back-end, but also as an agitator who plays with a little bit of a bite to his game.
“I’m a physical kid who likes to get under the skin of the opposing team and force them to take penalties, but I also like to attack on offense with great vision and passing,” said McCabe. “I’d like to think I play a similar game to Matthew Tkachuk."
According to Trumbull coach Greg Maxey, “Eric is the type of player that opposing teams hate to play against, but would love to have on their team. He was one of our most coachable and hardest working players and would be an asset to any team he plays for.”
