The Grey Highlands Hawks have announced the signing of forward Paul Holzheuer.

The 20-year-old is 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds and hails from Arosa, Switzerland.

According to the Hawks, Holzheuer has a good mix of size and skill - a fantastic offensive player with excellent two-way skills. He is very useful on both the power play and penalty kill. Holzheuer is a smart player who sees the ice very well. His excellent passing ability and puck skills are sure to also help make his linemates better.

“Holzheuer is a player we have been in contact with and following for over a year,” said Hawks director of recruiting Alex Magi. “We are extremely excited that Paul decided to sign with the Hawks this upcoming season. We believe he has the potential to not only be a strong offensive player for us but a top offensive player in the league. Having gotten to know Paul over the past year, it is the intangibles that he brings, which is where he will make the greatest contribution.”

Holzheuer has played the majority of his career for the EHC Alosa program. He has registered an impressive 61 goals and a total of 129 points in 123 games played between EHC Alosa U15, U17 and U20 teams, also finishing his team top three in scoring on four different occasions.

During the 2017-18 season, Holzheuer played in the SwissDiv4 league for the Wildhogs HC Arosa, which is the fourth highest league in Switzerland. He scored 26 goals and 46 points in only 18 games played. He also played one game in the Swiss Cup tournament, scoring a remarkable five goals and a total of seven points.

“It is a big opportunity for a European to go play hockey in Canada," added Holzheuer. "I am excited for this new adventure and I cannot wait to meet my new hockey family."
