Grey Highlands signs goaltender Janiuk, who is 'excited to become a Hawk'

by Matt Mackinder

The Grey Highlands Hawks have announced the signing of goaltender Garin Janiuk.

Janiuk, a native of Timmins, Ont., comes to the team as an experienced netminder playing both minor and varsity. Last season, he played Midget AAA for the North Bay Trappers, who finished on top of the GNMHL.  He posted an impressive 2.88 GAA ,  .927 save percentage, and recorded only one loss in his starts.

According to the Hawks, "Janiuk is a competitive goalie who doesn't shy away from the big games but is solid under pressure. He brings a lot of confidence to the net with strong fundamentals. He enjoys challenging the shooter, playing the puck and making the big saves. He is looking forward to playing his first year of junior with this same aggressive style.

"I expect that the pace will be faster and the players will be stronger, but I am up for the challenge," said Janiuk.

Janiuk is a team player who likes to help chalk up the wins. He has a strong work ethic both on and off the ice and puts in the time needed to improve his play. His passion for the game is evident and he is looking forward to starting his junior career with the Hawks and contributing to the team's success in the coming season.

"After talking with different teams and different leagues, I feel that Grey Highlands is the right choice for me," Janiuk said. "Coach Tichbourne and the staff are excited about the direction of the team and I think it's a great fit for my development. I see my game getting to the next level and think this is a great opportunity to advance. I'm excited to become a Hawk and can't wait to get on the ice and help lead the team for the 2018-19 season."
