Grey Highlands returns Bulgarian forward Stoilov, a player who 'can do it all'

The Grey Highlands Hawks have announced the signing of Bulgarian forward Aleks Stoilov for his third season with the Hawks.

Stoilov began his playing career with the CSKA Sofia U16 and U18 program in Bulgaria during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. He then played for the MHC Prievidza U18 program, which is the second tier of junior hockey in Slovakia.

“Aleks is probably one of the most versatile players I have ever coached,” said Hawks coach Brad Tichbourne.

“His ability to play both ends of the ice is second to none. One shift, I will have him playing forward, the next defense. He can do it all. I really look forward to another year with Aleks and hope his dedication and drive rubs off on the new players.”

In 2016, Stoilov made the move to Canada as a 16 year old splitting time between the GMHL and CPJHL. In 31 career games with the Hawks, he has scored 14 goals and a total of 39 points, placing him fifth all-time in points.

Stoilov is also no stranger when it comes to international tournaments. He has represented Bulgaria twice at the U18 WJC, capturing bronze both times. In 2015-16, he played for the U20 team that captured silver. The past two seasons, he played in the World Championships, also picking up silver both years.
