CPJHL Niagara Showcase in Port Colborne shows parity between teams, depth of player talent pool

A total of 20 games were played Feb. 13-14 at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre in Port Colborne, Ont., as part of the CPJHL Niagara Showcase.

Here are the highlights from each game:

FEB. 13

Grey Highlands Hawks 4, EOHA 0
The Hawks scored all four goals in the third period – Owen Tichbourne with two – and Ryan Cote stopped 24 shots for the shutout.

Lake Erie Eagles 4, Coldwater Ice Wolves 3
Chance Ubel scored twice, including the overtime winner, for the Eagles, while Tyler Arsenault potted a pair of goals for the Ice Wolves.

Essa Stallions 2, Smiths Falls Settlers 1
Tim Holmstrom scored both goals for Essa, Jared Weatherbee assisted on both and Ethan James made 17 saves in goal. Smiths Falls goalie Kyle Fritz stopped 15 shots.

Bracebridge Pioneers 5, Maniwaki Mustangs 3
Kayden Voskamp scored four goals for the Pioneers, while Bryce Tracey added a goal and two assists in the win.

Coldwater Ice Wolves 4, EOHA 2
Tyler Arsenault scored two goals for Coldwater and Nick Dempster contributed a goal and an assist for EOHA.

Seaforth Generals 6, Almonte Jr. Sharpshooters 2
Ryan Marriage went for a goal and two assists, while Ethan Roche added three assists for the Generals.

Essa Stallions 5, Maniwaki Mustangs 1
Tim Holmstrom and Chris Hunt each scored two goals apiece for the Stallions.

Smiths Falls Settlers 2, Bracebridge Pioneers 1
Reilly Degray and Jake Awan scored for the Settlers, while Kristian Luptak tallied for the Pioneers.

Grey Highlands Hawks 6, Almonte Jr. Sharpshooters 2
Aleks Stoilov fashioned two goals and an assist for the Hawks, who scored four goals in the second period.

Seaforth Generals 4, Lake Erie Eagles 3
Decided in a shootout, three different players scored for each team in regulation before Luke Steen and Mckenna Wombdiska scored in the shootout for Seaforth.

FEB. 14

Bracebridge Pioneers 4, Lake Erie Eagles 3
Braden Simon posted three assists as the Pioneers scored four unanswered goals to get the win.

Grey Highlands Hawks 1, Smiths Falls Settlers 0
Owen Tichbourne came through with the lone goal, while Zachery Mather made 20 saves for the shutout.

Coldwater Ice Wolves 4, Maniwaki Mustangs 2
Ethan Haywood scored twice, added an assist for Coldwater.

Essa Stallions 13, EOHA 1
Brett Simpson (goal, four assists), Tim Holmstrom and Alec Martyn (two goals, two assists), Chris Hunt (three goals, assist) and Ryan Boose (goal, three assists) were the big point-getters for the Stallions, who allowed just 11 shots in the game.

Bracebridge Pioneers 5, Almonte Jr. Sharpshooters 2
Kodee Keys, Kayden Voskamp and Braden Simon all had a goal and an assist for Bracebridge.

Smiths Falls Settlers 3, Seaforth Generals 0
Kyle Fritz stopped all 30 shots he faced to garner the shutout for the Settlers.

Essa Stallions 5, Lake Erie Eagles 2
Chris Hunt tallied a goal and two helpers as the Stallions outshot the Eagles 47-8.

Grey Highlands Hawks 6, Maniwaki Mustangs 5
Jacob Sakulsky scored five goals, including the overtime winner, and assisted on the other for a six-point performance for the Hawks.

Seaforth Generals 5, EOHA 3
Luke Steen recorded a goal and four points and Mckenna Wombdiska two goals and an assist for Seaforth in the victory.

Coldwater Ice Wolves 10, Almonte Jr. Sharpshooters 1
Joseph Iron popped three goals, Ricards Ozolins added two goals and an assist and Tyler Arsenault added a goal and two assists for Coldwater.
