Royals add to lineup with Somang Academy defenseman Gagne, Czech Republic forward Mica

The Langton Royals have announced the signing of defenseman Alexis Gagne and forward Filip Mica for the 2019-20 CPJHL season.

Gagne is a 19-year-old blueliner from Somang Academy, while Mica comes to Langton from the Czech Republic.

"Alexis brings us some needed experience," said Royals coach-GM Jason Do Paco. "Although it will be his first season of junior hockey, he has been playing for Somang Academy. We have two players, Tobby Beliveau and Olivier Beaulieu, from Somang who have proven to been outstanding so far this season and anticipate Alexis won’t fall short of those expectations. We are figuring out the league and figuring out what we need so this pickup will provide us with some different looks and options on the power play and penalty kill."

The Royals hope to have Gagne in the lineup this coming weekend.

"I decided to join the Royals because I liked Jason's vision," Gagne said. "I think the program is awesome and can’t wait to play for the Royals. I want to establish myself as a good defenseman that can play in the defensive zone and the offensive zone. My goal for the future is to play hockey for as long as I can at the highest levels I can."

Mica will be a treat to watch this season, according to Do Paco.

"We are very pleased about this signing as Filip is a talented player already at his age," Do Paco said. "I'm excited to develop him into a player that our scout overseas says he can be. This is what excites me most about junior hockey in general. It's the opportunity to work with these young men every day and help them succeed. Filip will add to our lineup and provide some offensive punch. It will take a little time to adjust to the smaller ice and the level of contact goes with it but I'm sure he will transition quickly and be just fine in a week or two."

Mica is pumped about becoming a Royal.

"I am looking to come to Canada to improve myself as a player and to develop with the Royals," said Mica. "My goals are to score goals this season - lots of goals. I like to score goals. I want to develop with coach and get to the professional ranks."
