Mustangs eliminate Settlers in two straight, advance to CPJHL semifinal round

The Maniwaki Mustangs have advanced to the CPJHL semifinals after sweeping the Smiths Falls Settlers in two straight games.

Friday from the Centre Gino Odjick, Anthony Bedard led the offense with five goals and one assist in a 13-5 win.

Jeremy Brooks tallied two goals and three assists, Phillippe Beaudoin added a goal and two assists and Gabriel Briere notched three helpers.

Phillippe Gaudron, Zachary Beaudoin and Yannick Brindamour all had a goal and an assist, while Temuri Vedyapin added two assists and Jeremy Pontbriand and Niels Colliot scored one each.

In goal, Logan Hensley finished with 24 saves.

For the Settlers, Dylan Henri had two goals and three asissts and Askar Kagirov tacked on three goals and an assist. Goaltender Jonatan Horne made 47 saves.

Then Saturday back at the Centre Gino Odjick, Maniwaki closed out the series with an 18-2 win.

Paul Fuchs went for three goals and four assists, Zachary Beaudoin added three goals and three assists, Bedard a goal and four assists, Colliot four goals, Vedyapin and Brindamour a goal and three assists each, and Brooks and Briere each posted a goal and two helpers.

Antoine Bertrand added two goals, Phillippe Beaudoin scored one, and Gaudron picked up a pair of assists.

Hensley earned the win in goal making 31 stops.

Smiths Falls was led by Henri's two goals and a combined 57 saves from Horne and Jacob Baxter.

Maniwaki will now play Le Becard de Senneterre next weekend with the winner facing the Seaforth Generals for the President's Cup.
