CPJHL New York Showcase takes to NCAA campuses, produces strong early-season showings

Back on Oct. 24-25, the Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League staged its first showcase of the season in New York on the campuses of NCAA Division I Clarkson University and NCAA Division III SUNY-Canton and SUNY-Potsdam.

Here are the highlights from each game at the CPJHL New York Showcase:

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 24

Seaforth Generals 5, Scarborough Wexford Raiders 1
Ethan Scrimgeour tallied two goals and an assist for the Generals, while Spencer Lazarevich made 20 saves in goal.

Muskoka Anglers 6, Coldwater Ice Wolves 1
Brett Armstrong and Brett Machin each posted a goal and an assist for the Anglers, who also got 13 saves from goaltender Ethan Messner.

Essa Stallions 5, Smiths Falls Settlers 0
Austin Gilmore scored twice for the Stallions and Matthew Server pitched the seven-save shutout.

Grey Highlands Hawks 5, Maniwaki Mustangs 3
Jacob Sakulsky notched a pair of goals for the Hawks and Filip Soderstrom added two assists in the win.

Muskoka Anglers 6, Seaforth Generals 4
Seaforth’s Aaron Grubb went for two goals and an assist and Adam Brown had two goals for the Anglers.

Coldwater Ice Wolves 6, Scarborough Wexford Raiders 2
Jiri Dvorak recorded a goal and two helpers for Coldwater and Rico Opikokew contributed a goal and an assist for the Ice Wolves.

Essa Stallions 3, Maniwaki Mustangs 0
Ethan James made six saves for the shutout and Tim Holmstrom compiled two assists for the Stallions.

Grey Highlands Hawks 11, Smiths Falls Settlers 2
Theo Bundock went for two goals and an assist and Filip Soderstrom added two more goals for the Hawks. Corbin Paypompee scored twice for the Settlers.

THURSDAY, OCT. 25

Grey Highlands Hawks 4, Muskoka Anglers 1
Filip Soderstrom scored twice and added two assists, while Paul Holzheuer picked up four assists to back Maris Saulgriezis’ 19 saves in goal.

Essa Stallions 7, Coldwater Ice Wolves 0
Austen Lucas scored two goals and Matthew Server earned his second shutout, turning aside all 10 shots he faced.

Maniwaki Mustangs 3, Scarborough Wexford Raiders 2
Louis Wery made 22 saves in goal for Maniwaki, while Adam Masty Shem popped a pair of goals for the Mustangs. Anthony Bosnjak had a goal and an assist for the Raiders.

Smiths Falls Settlers 7, Seaforth Generals 4
Reilly Degray registered a goal and three assists for Smiths Falls and Parker Gee notched three assists for the Generals.

Coldwater Ice Wolves 4, Grey Highlands Hawks 1
Milan Koznar tallied 25 stops in the Coldwater net and Zachary Iron and Ivan Korcak each posted two goals and an assist in the win.

Essa Stallions 4, Muskoka Anglers 1
Tim Holmstrom picked up the hat trick and Ethan James stopped 18 shots for Essa.

Scarborough Wexford Raiders 5, Smiths Falls Settlers 2
Xavier Zuba posted two goals and two assists and Andrew Lachapelle added a pair of goals. Brendan Streight went for a goal and an assist for Smiths Falls.

Maniwaki Mustangs 4, Seaforth Generals 3
Alex Visitor’s goal at 1:09 of overtime was the difference. Spencer Redmond made 48 saves for Seaforth and Ethan Scrimgeour added three assists.
